ADP Alcohol Brief Intervention Training
Alcohol Brief Intervention Training
Alcohol Brief Interventions are a short, evidence-based, structured conversation about alcohol consumption with a patient/client that seeks in a non-confrontational way to motivate and support the individual to think about and/or plan a change in their drinking behaviour in order to reduce their consumption and/or their risk of harm.
The long term aim of the ABI programme has always been to sustain and embed ABI delivery so that it becomes part of the standard offer of NHS Scotland, as well as developing the evidence base. The delivery and embedding of ABIs remains a priority for 2019-20 as per action 17 in the new Alcohol Prevention Framework (2018).
ABIs should be seen as a part of the day-to-day best practice of health professionals and others, not an add-on to their role.
ABIs are an effective and cost effective intervention . Delivery should be evidence informed through the use of screening tools and based on NICE Public Health Guidance and reviews such as those through Cochrane
Orkney ADP is happy to provide training on Alcohol Brief Interventions (ABI's) to any person or organisation working in a client facing role who feels their client could benefit from intervention relating to problematic alcohol use.
Due to the Covid19 pandemic situation OADP are now offering ABI training online rather than face to face. We can facilitate the ABI training via Microsoft Teams.
Orkney ADP can now provide staff with a template created by NHS Highland's Public Health team on the best practice in delivering Alcohol Brief Interventions remotely, either via phone or online platforms such as Microsoft Teams, etc.
Orkney ADP also has a suite of free resources available to help facilitate conversations about alcohol use with clients and to help clients monitor and reduce their alcohol use. Please get in touch to order some.
